All of the vitamins known today have been isolated and identified prior to the year 1950. In the search for these, many investigators observed that several natural materials and fermentation products produced growth responses and improvements in feed utilization that could not be explained in terms of known elements. Consequently, these have been labeled "Unidentified Growth Factors".
The need for these "factors" for optimum efficiency in the diet of poultry and swine has been thoroughly proven through numerous experimental tests. Dr. J.R. Couch, Poultry Nutritionist for Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College, says: "Numerous experiments have shown that there is a synergistic relationship between the sources of unidentified growth factors and antibiotics. Antibiotics produce the maximum growth responses when there is a diet complete with regard to known and unknown growth factors.
AGROFAC is made from the dried de-alcoholized fermentation residues that remain after high quality cereal grains (corn, rye, and barley malt) have been fermented by yeast. In the fermentation process nearly all of the starch in the grains is converted to alcohol, carbon dioxide and other carbohydrates while the remaining nutrients, such as proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins, undergo a three-fold concentration.
AGROFAC or these fermentation residues contain, in addition, yeast cells and unidentified organic and inorganic growth substances, as well as significant amounts of the B-Complex vitamins.
Manufacturers of quality premixes (mineral and vitamin supplements) and complete formula feeds use AGROFAC as a bulk carrier.
AGROFAC IN POULTRY FEEDS
Experiments have demonstrated that AGROFAC supplies important known and unknown nutrients to feed for all classes of poultry. The Grain Fermentation Factors in AGROFAC exert their influence in the presence of antibiotics and under certain stress conditions. The low moisture, high fat and energy content make it an ideal ingredient in high energy feeds. AGROFAC also has pigmenting properties which are derived from the Carotenoid pigment contained in the corn used for the distilling process.
Documented research has revealed that AGROFAC yields a growth response of the same magnitude for poultry as other unidentified factor sources including fish solubles and whey products. Utilizing 21/2% AGROFAC in a poultry ration, substituting corn and soybean meal on a parallel protein level will supply an adequate amount of growth factor and is interchangeable in whey factor activity.
AGROFAC IN SWINE RATIONS
AGROFAC can be used advantageously and economically in complete rations or supplements for pigs of all ages in drylots or on pasture. It is an excellent source of known nutrients and also furnishes several unidentified growth substances to stimulate a higher and more efficient utilization of feed. When used in complete gestation-lactation rations it will improve the reproduction performance by giving larger and health-ier litters, and the growth rate of the pigs after weaning will be faster.
By including AGROFAC at the rate of 21/2% of the finished feed in swine rations, fermentation factors will be added which will increase feed efficiency and add a higher rate of growth.
AGROFAC IN RUMINANT RATIONS
Tests have proven that AGROFACcontains nutrients that increase cellulose digestion by rumen microorganisms. The nutrients nourish the micro-flora in the rumen thus converting more efficiently the cellulose roughages to digestive carbohydrates.
The nutrients in AGROFAC are readily digested. The total digestible nutrient content is higher than most ingredients used in dairy rations. In particular, AGROFAC is a good source of fat, consequently provides extra energy compared to solvent extracted oil meals. Its physical characteristics make it an ideal carrier for proper rumen function. The palatability of AGROFAC makes it possible to use as much as 20% in a dairy or steer ration to replace Soybean Meal, Cottonseed Meal or Linseed Meal on an equivalent protein basis.
